Message from Maggie: I attended a music festival this weekend with my best friend Lindsey in Cincinnati, Ohio. It seems the festival scene is growing and nearly every city now claims its own. Here are my tips and a checklist on prepping and packing for a successful + fun music festival.
Dress:
- Layers: These festivals typically start early in the day and go late. Bring layers like a coat or long sleeve shirt for weather changes throughout the day. This year I brought along a vest that kept me warm.
- Hat: I like to pack a collapsible hat in case it is sunny or to protect you from the rain.
- Sneakers: Given these festivals have you on your feet all day and are typically in grassy areas that can get muddy, plan to wear sneakers. (Note: I traded off between my classic Chuck Taylors + these DIY slip ons- find the tutorial here.)
- Sunglasses: Recent studies point to the fact that sunglasses are essential for maintaining eye health. Plus they make you look cool- am I right?
- Backpack: Bring a lightweight small backpack that you can carry along all your essentials. (Note: I recently purchased this one + it worked like a charm!)
Pack:
- Plastic ziplock bags: Lindsey is an avid concert goer and never leaves home without a ziplock bag. These will help keep your phones dry if and when there is a down pour!
- Snacks: Food at festivals can be hit or miss- and often expensive. Plan ahead and bring along a granola bar or an apple in case you get in a bind and need some quick energy.
- Water bottle: Often times bottled water can be expensive but that shouldn’t stop you from keeping hydrated. Festivals are now featuring free filtered water for the masses, if you bring your own bottle. I like the collapsible ones that are lightweight and easily breakdown so you can keep in your backpack until you are thirsty again. (Note: I recommend this one!)
- Raincoat: Sometimes festivals are more fun when they rain, but you will be much more comfortable if you pack a raincoat!
