Message from Maggie: My friend Adam’s 30th birthday was this weekend. We hosted a backyard barbecue for him and since his last name is Wolf- I decided to do make a wolf cake and a few other wolf inspired items. Check em out below!
What you need:
Wolf Cake
- Cake mix
- Two 8-9 inch round pans
- Parchment paper
- Large cake plate
- Frosting ingredients (3 c. confectioners sugar, 1/2 c. softened butter, 2-3 T. milk, 1 t. vanilla, black food coloring)
Wolf signs
- Paper
- Frames (Note: I got mine at Ikea but you can find cheapies at the thrift store, too)
Wolf paw prints
- Sidewalk chalk
Instructions:
Cake
- Bake cake in two round pans according to cake mix instructions.
- Let cake cool completely.
- Take one cake out of pan flipping it upside down on a parchment paper covered plate.
- Take second cake out of plan and place on cutting board.
- Cut pieces out of second cake to create 5 pieces (2 ears, a snout, and 2 joules)
- Place pieces around first cake to create the wolf shape.
- Mix frosting ingredients with an electric mixer.
- Put 1/2 a cup of frosting in a small dish and mix in black food coloring creating a small amount of dark black colored frosting.
- In the large bowl, mix in a small amount of black food coloring creating a light grey color frosting.
- Frost entire cake with grey frosting.
- Place black frosting in a plastic bag.
- Cut small hole in plastic bag and pipe black frosting onto cake to make wolf features.
Wolf Signs
- Using Canva, create a new project using card format.
- Create signs with play on words like Hungry Like a Wolf + Wolf it Down.
- Print signs.
- Place signs in frames
Wolf tracks
- Using sidewalk chalk draw wolf paw tracks on sidewalk leading up house.
