Message from Maggie:  When we were married last spring I wanted to do a DC themed welcome basket since most of our guests were out of towners. Since DC doesn’t have much industry necessarily we had a hard time coming up with items off the bat.  To take the guessing out of it for other DC brides, here are some recommendations!

Directions:

• Brainstorm a unique basket, box or bag.  (Note:  I used berry baskets since I am a foodie and dietitian.)
• Make a map for guests.  (Note: I used canva to create mine!)
• Include an American flag.  (Note: We got ours from Oriental Trading.)
• Reach out to bus companies and hotels for free maps and brochures.  (Note: We contacted Big Bus and then sent us a box full as well as went to a Hotel Closing and cleaned out their lobby display.)
• Include DC metro area themed food such as:
  • DC chocolates (Note: We had a hard time finding these so bought chocolates and made DC postcard themed stickers to wrap around them.)
  • Maryland crab chips (Note: We used Utz brand- a gift from the former CEO!)
  • Virginia peanuts (Note: We used Hubbies brand.)
  • DC Brau beer
  • Capitol shaped cookies
  • Nats Bunts
• Include your wedding koozie (Note: See ours here!).
