Make: Cozy Coup Makeover
Message from Maggie:
I searched high and low for a cozy coup to make over on Craig’s list. Turns out they are hard to come by in this area! After finding one deep in the DC suburbs where a friend is from her brother graciously brought it to me in the city. I made it over to look like a VW bus as a birthday gift for my itty bitty Gentile. It is the color of my first Volkswagen that Papa Magpie purchased for me and named Kermie.
Materials:
- Cozy Coup
- Screw scriver
- Spray paint
- Thin automotive chrome trim
- Ball Jar lid
- Painters tape
- Newspaper
- License Plate
- Glue Gun
Instructions:
- If you have a new age coup, remove the eyes using a screw driver by starting on the back and taking out the first two screws, then take out the internal four screws. Disgard all pieces.
- Dissemble the top from the bottom by removing 2 large screws on the back. (Note: If I were to re-do this project, I would skip this step. It was very hard to put back together. Lucky for me Papa Magpie assisted at this part.)
- Remove any stickers.
-
Wipe down entire body of the coup.
- Wrap the steering wheel and wheels with trash bags to cover them.
-
Prime the car with spray paint primer.
- Paint the bottom of the car with a bright color spray paint. (Note: I chose green).
- Paint the top of the car with white spray paint.
- Once it dries use painters tape and newspaper to mask off the areas around where you want the white details. Spray it with white spray paint.
- Use thin automotive chrome trim to accent the white areas.
- Using a Ball jar top and the chrome automotive trim create a VW logo.
- Glue the logo to the front of the cozy coup.
- Glue the license plate to the back of the cozy coup.
