Make: Christmas Tree Tea Towels
Message from Maggie:
We are headed to Chicago this weekend and staying with my oldest and dearest friend Laura the first night. We promised no Christmas gifts this year but I wanted to make something to give her as a hostess gift.
Materials:
- Acrylic paint (red, green, + gold)
- Plastic plate
- Plain tea towels
- Potato
- Star cookie cutter
- An iron
- Ribbon
Instructions:
- Cut a potato into a triangle and another piece into a rectangle to create a tree stump.
- Squirt some green paint onto a plastic plate.
- Dip the triangle piece into the green paint.
- Press the triangle down firmly on the towel.
- Repeat adding green paint between presses until your towel is filled with green triangles.
- Dip the tree stump into red paint.
- Press the tree stump firmly on the towel under the green triangle to create a tree.
- Repeat adding red stump between presses until your towel is filled with complete christmas trees.
- Cut a star shape out of the potato using the cookie cutter.
- Dip star into gold paint on the top of each christmas tree.
- Once towel is completely dry, place a clean rag over the tea towel and using a hot iron iron the rag to ensure the paint sets.
- Fold and tie with ribbon.
